End of an era...

Every laptop I've ever owned has been a Sony Vaio. The last two laptops mom's had were also Vaios. Ditto for her PCs. But sadly Sony decided to stop making their Vaio line...which left my options wide open when I killed my laptop two weeks ago. After consulting a friend in Southern California who I knew loved Lenovos, I decided to give this one a try.

I'm glad I didn't wait to buy it (not procrastinating paid off for once!), since it's gone up about $30 since I purchased it. It has most of the specs I was looking for...Windows 7, a 15.6" screen, optical drive and full keyboard (with number pad). I kind of wanted an i5, but decided to err on the side of cheaper. I also found an i7 I was seriously tempted to buy, but the cost and lack luster battery life talked me out of it.

After playing with Lenny (yes, I've named my laptop Lenny) over the weekend, I'm not in love, but he'll do. My last laptop was a bit...heartier. Heavier and felt more substantial. Lenny is a bit plastic-y. I also don't like that the screen flashes black when you plug or unplug it. Gives me a mini heart attack every time. A small thing...the Function button is where Control should be and it keeps messing me up. I'm sure that will just take getting used to, but at the moment it's annoying. :)  The sound is really good, which is important. We've had several electronics that just didn't cut it in the audio department. It's also pretty quick and streams pretty smoothly...though Lenny and Hulu don't seem to get along very well. When streaming shows, they keep starting over from the beginning...at random times and up to 10 times a show. It could just be Hulu having issues...so I'm not blaming Lenny yet.

Overall I'm fine with my purchase. It's hard making such a big decision and spending a large lump sum like that...but it's sure nice to have the freedom and mobility of a laptop again.
