Goo Goo Dolls Concert, Take 2

Starlight Theater, Kansas City
One of the best things about summer is that it's "concert season," which makes me happy because I love concerts. I've gone to a couple a year the past few years, including Josh Groban (yay!), IL Divo, The Script, Nickelback (stop judging me), Michael Buble and James Taylor. I have a few more on a wishlist that I'd love to see live someday - The Fray, Imagine Dragons, Mumford and Sons, Lindsay Stirling and the Piano Guys. Hopefully they'll perform around here eventually! :)

Last Friday night I saw the Goo Goo Dolls perform at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City with Maryann, Brandon and Bill. It was my fourth time seeing them live, the third time in an outdoor venue. I've seen them twice at Stir Cove in Council Bluffs and once at the Pershing Center in Lincoln (earlier this month). They have some awesome songs - Iris is one of my all time favorites - and they are a lot of fun to see live. I really enjoyed the Starlight as a venue...the acoustics were good, the seats were pretty comfortable and there wasn't really a bad seat in the house.

This Goo Goo Dolls performance provided us with a bit of a meteorological surprise. Daughtry opened for the Goo Goo Dolls and once he finished his set, there was an announcement that a storm was rolling through the area that was expected to bring heavy rain and lightening. They asked people to wait in their cars or under a covered area, since it was going to blow through quickly enough that the concert would just be delayed, not cancelled. Maryann, Brandon, Bill and I moved up under the narrow overhang at the top of the amphitheater and waited for the storm to pass. I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture to the right, but after a bit of sprinkling, it started to rain pretty hard for about 15 minutes or so. Overall it wasn't too long of a wait...probably a total of 45 minutes, which included the time they needed to change the set for the Goo Goo Dolls to perform. Rain at a concert is certainly not a first...the second time we saw the Goo Goo Dolls at Stir Cove it started to rain. They played through some of it, but ended up cutting the show short. I remember I was wearing a dress and felt like it was one of the worse clothing decisions I'd ever made...though jeans would have been uncomfortable wet as well.

Rain aside, it was a fun Labor Day weekend and a great concert! Good music and great company...can't ask for much more! :)

P.S. When I was walking to my seat I noticed this girl wearing a TARDIS dress and thought it was pretty fun. When we were waiting for the rain to pass I saw her nearby and snapped this quick pic, quietly commenting to my friend standing next to me, "I swear I'm not taking a picture of your ass...I'm just taking a picture of your TARDIS!" :)
