Married at First Sight

First off, I am not a reality show kind of person. I've never watched the Bachelor or Bachelorette. I think Jersey Shore is a blight on civilization and gives Italians an epic bad name. The only reality shows I do watch on a regular basis are Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef/Master Chef Junior. I love food - eating it and watching it being prepared, so those shows are fun to watch even if I will never be able to cook half that amazingly.

So when I first saw an article about Married at First Sight I thought, "....whaaaat?" That's nuts! What kind of people would agree to do something like this, to be matched with total strangers and get legally married? And what kind of a person would watch that show?

Sigh...that would be me. (points to self)

What is the show about, you ask?

"Based on the hit Danish format, “Married at First Sight” is an extreme social experiment following six brave souls who are yearning for a life-long partnership as they agree to a provocative proposal: getting legally married the moment they first meet. The couples will never meet or know each other until they walk down the aisle and see each other face to face, for the first time, when they get married. After several weeks together, each couple must make a decision: do they remain together or decide to separate?"

Spoilers below, since I doubt anyone I know will be following me down this particular rabbit hole.

I've only watched the first two episodes (there are only 2 on Hulu as yet), but sadly I'm hooked. The show starts out explaining the experiment, introducing you to the "experts" and the six individuals that will make up the three couples. The second episode takes you through all the weddings and receptions. I quickly found favorite people and moments - Jason the EMT lives with and takes care of his mother who has stage 4 lung cancer. Cortney thinking to send him a card the morning of their wedding signed "wifey." Doug making a "Doug for dummies" cheat sheet of pictures of his family and friends to help Jamie feel comfortable more quickly. Just don't tell Jamie he called her a dummy. :)

Favorite couple so far - Jason and Cortney. His face when she walked down the aisle was what every girl dreams of seeing. They are very sweet and natural together...and because Cortney's colors weren't pink. :)

Starting with the next episode I'm sure the drama will hit the fan, with the honeymoon, moving in together, learning to live with each other, etc. And since I hate drama, I'd like to say that's where I'll call it quits...but I know I'll want to see how things work out and if any of them end up staying together.

I'd ask when did I become such a girl, but that would be silly. :)

Enjoy and happy Friday!
