All I need is a room with a high ceiling and this is mine! :)
I love the idea of a lofted bed as a space-saver...and with all the shelving this provides, it creates a great built-in library as well as sitting and sleeping area. You could put a comfortable futon or daybed in the couch area, allowing it to double as a "guest room" when necessary. And it looks like there's enough room to make it a cozy movie watching corner...you could easily mount a flat screen on the wall behind the shelves, creating a tiny, personal cinema. I can totally see myself snuggled in there, with fluffy pillows, soft blankets and a good book...or movie, of course.
I did some looking around online and from what I could tell, you would have to construct this particular setup yourself...it doesn't come pre-made. One of my favorite parts is the bookcase/shelving, which you could easily get from IKEA. The other thing I really like is how much room you have in the upstairs sleeping area...while it does have a twin mattress, there's plenty of room to move around and still have a little bit of shelving. My guess is that the easiest way to accomplish this would be to buy a king size platform and then attach a twin size frame for the mattress, building up the rest of it (shelves, railing, lamp) around that. The Expedit system from IKEA would make a good base to work with...it's heavy, has pieces that are 6' tall and has split shelf, door and desk options. IKEA also have a lot of cool day beds, sofa beds and futons.
In looking for lofted queen sized beds, I ran across some fun set up ideas. Check out these great loft ideas...I think #7 and #5 are my favorites!
And a bit off topic, but I ran across "43 Insanely Cool Remodel Ideas For Your Home" and while some of them are dumb, there are several really cool ideas...if you have the money and space for them! I love #2 - the window seat with a trundle bed, #6 - the stair bookcase, #17 - the hidden room(s) and #33 - the bunk bed room (how cool would that be for sleepovers?).

Great link to the loft bed ideas! I liked #15 the best- loved the big wheels! #8 was awful. Do they make someone sleep there? ack!
ReplyDeleteThe one in your picture is incredible. I have learned I like several things - 1. I need a bedside table 2. It has to have a lamp or wall mounted light that can be turned off within reach of my bed. If I am ready to fall asleep after reading and then have to get up to turn off the light, dang, now I am too "awake" and need to read some more before I get sleepy again! What's a girl to do? When I am staying somewhere that has no bedside lighting, I use my phone as a second best backup. Also nice to have- a dimly lit clock for when I wake up and wonder what time it is. Beats the heck out of having to light up my phone especially when I have forgotten to dim the screen. Thanks again- I liked the remodel link too! Looking through these was a nice break from work for me!
