Beauty

Colbie Calliet's "Try" has been making the rounds on Facebook this past weekend and I have to say I love it...from the music to the lyrics to the women who were chosen to be in it...to Colbie herself. I really applaud her for making it. Yes, she's still a pretty woman without make up, but trying to help boost women's self confidence sans "things" is really important.

Yes...I love clothes and jewelry and the latest fashions...but it's not who I am. It's not what makes me "good enough." Some days it feels like it...hence the mild-to-moderate case of shopaholic-ism. But deep down I know I'm more...I'm better...I'm me, and that's what makes me special.

Every woman wants to feel beautiful. And while I do think we should take pride in our appearance and not be slovenly or unkempt, I also don't think we should be expected to look perfect all the time. I just went to a wedding last month and spent two hours getting ready. Yes, I looked damn good (if I do say so myself), but I do not have that kind of time to put into my appearance on a regular basis! Nor the patience, for that matter. :)

The world's idea of beauty is virtually unattainable and is incredibly damaging to the average woman's self confidence/self esteem. Stick thin, busty with long legs and a flawless complexion is great and all, but isn't something most of us could ever hope to attain. Personally I try very hard to focus on the need to lose some weight as a means to be healthy and fit, as opposed to just being more attractive...and believe me, it's a constant challenge - trying to be healthier and have a healthy perspective about myself. I made the mistake the other day of searching Facebook for other "Katie Quinteros" as a security measure and let me tell you, don't do it! It's depressing as hell! At least 80% of the Katie Q's out there are intrinsically more attractive than me, which I know has absolutely nothing to do with me myself as a person...I don't know about you, but my fragile ego rarely listens to logical arguments.

But I'm getting a bit off topic.

If you haven't seen "Try" yet, you should be able to listen/watch the music video below or else you can check it out here.

Enjoy...happy Tuesday...and remember, you're beautiful.

P.S. Some people know that my boss - Senator Colby Coash - decided to run for Speaker of the Legislature next session, sending out his letter of intent on the last day of session this year. As of yesterday he officially has an opponent - Senator Galen Hadley of Kearney, NE. We had heard rumors about it and the Omaha World Herald confirmed it this morning. While my anxiety has definitely increased (because, have you met me?), I am still supremely confident that Senator Coash will ultimately garner more votes come January and will be the Speaker of the 104th Nebraska Legislature! Go Team Coash! :)
