10 best Amazon purchases so far this year

I got an email from PopSugar with a list of 17 best items one of their editors bought on Amazon this year, which of course made me think about the best things I've bought on Amazon this year...so I put together a list of my top 10 items.

1.
Wet Brush Original Detangler $6.99

I actually bought my first Wet Brush a while back (this was a replacement). Particularly since re-bleaching/coloring it, I can end up with a lot of snarls in my hair. This does a good job detangling my hair, which cuts down on brush time and damage...and you kinda can't beat it for the price!

2. TruSkin Naturals With Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba Oil, MSM, Peptides and More $15.48

Due to my self-imposed sleep deprivation (I'm a confirmed night owl 🦉), my eyes tend to look a bit tired.  I was looking for a good eye gel or cream that didn't break the bank and found this one. I've bought TruSkin products before and liked that this had almost 2,600 reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I really like that it's cooling, non-sticky and seems to decrease the exhaustion-related fine lines. I'm on my second bottle.

3. Maybelline New York Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Eyeshadow, Beige Luster $7.59

Speaking of eyes, this is another product that helps brighten things up. I first found Beige Luster in a clearance bin (I think when Shopko was going out of business?). It has a slightly metallic sheen to it and definitely makes me look lighter and more awake. I also bought it in Bronze Sheen.

4. Infi-Touch Heavy Duty Nitrile Gloves, pack of 100 $15.99

Image result for Infi-Touch Heavy Duty Nitrile Gloves
A must for anyone constantly coloring their hair, I've bought these gloves twice now. I originally found them the first time I colored my hair blue, slowly making my way through the box. I tried using gloves that came with the color kit once and the blue bled through, so I've stuck with these ever since.

5. amFilm Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S8, 3D Curved Tempered Glass, Dot Matrix with Easy Installation Tray, Case Friendly (Black) $11.99

I never damage my phones. N-e-v-e-r. But somehow my Galaxy S8's screen cracked (really badly) in two places. To keep any more glass from chipping off, I looked for a protective screen. This one had great reviews and I liked that it's made of glass. It's taken a little getting used to, but it definitely does the job. I'm actually on my second screen...I cracked the first one (really, this never happens!), but since I'd registered it, I was able to get a replacement for free.

6. Women's Jumpsuit Racerback Tank Top Bodysuit $12.89

I'm actually wearing this today! 😎 I'd been on the lookout for a couple bodysuits to wear under shirts. I really like them for layering with a skirt, since they lay flat/don't bunch up. I decided to give these a try, since they were under $13. While I only own two - white and black - I definitely want to get a couple more colors at some point. They're comfortable and accommodating for a longer torso.

7. Recursion: A Novel by Blake Crouch $13.95

I became a huge Blake Crouch fan after reading Dark Matter, which is still my favorite of his novels. Recursion comes in close second. It's interesting, thought-provoking and tough to put down. I'd definitely recommend it (and Dark Matter too!).

8. Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent by Lewis Capaldi $9.99

For me, he's the new Adele. Beautiful, heart wrenching breakup songs that help you serenade your way to closure. I found him when a Doctor Who Facebook group posted the music video for "Someone You Loved" because it featured Peter Capaldi (the 12th Doctor). I pre-ordered the CD as soon as it was available...gotta love the title! 😆

9. 4-port USB charging station $15.99

For some reason my computer charges my cell phone super slowly, so I bought this charging port to keep next to my desk. It makes a huge difference and with all the ports I can charge multiple items at the same time (including my boss's phone). I received a charging tower as a Christmas present last year that's also really handy. I keep it in the basement and use it for my phone and laptop.

10. Vintage 1920s Long Slit V Neck Sequin Evening Dress $39.99

I saved the best for last. 😎 Since this next year is 2020, the friends I generally hang out with for New Years thought it would be fun to have a 20s themed NYE this year...and this is the dress I bought (it was on sale for Prime Day...yay me!). It's a little less slinky in person, but still pretty epic. I bought the red version and am super excited to wear it.

➼ ➼ ➼

Honorable mentions from places other than Amazon:

Ulta - TiGi Bed Head After-Party

I've used After Party for years! Love how soft and manageable it makes my hair. It's a bit pricey, between $20-$23, depending on where you get it...but it's almost always included in Ulta's super sales, which is when I snatch up a couple.

Ulta - Lipstick Queen: Hello Sailor, Frog Prince and Old Flame
These are cool because they look a little different on everyone, because the color changes/appears differently on each person based on their coloring. They feel great on and are long lasting. The colors are really fun too, without being utterly eye catching (in a bad way). If you're looking for a new lipstick, I'd definitely consider giving one of these a try!

Dermstore - R+Co Waterfall Moisture and Shine Lotion
This is a recent hair product acquisition. Dermstore was having a big sale and I decided to give this a try. Not going to lie, it was partly due to good marketing...the product video cracked me up (the narrator/co-founder of R+Co is Scottish). This is one of the most expensive hair products I own, if I'd bought it full price at $29. Bumble and Bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil wins in the expensive category at $40, with B&B's Straight Blow Dry coming in close second at $32. I justify the expense because they're great products and last FOREVER. Back to Waterfall...big fan. It makes my hair soft and supple, taming the flyaways. Especially after bleaching/dying my hair, I wanted something to restore moisture and this fits the bill!

Victoria Secret - Pink Wear Everywhere Push-Up

This bra has been a godsend...which is a sentence I never thought I'd write. 😎😄  It's comfortable, supportive and comes in my size (which is surprisingly hard to find). It's also on sale fairly regularly - I can find it for $20 a couple times a year, though at the moment it's 2/$49.95 (regularly $34.95). I have it in several colors and a bunch of prints. Love, love, love this thing.

oVertone Extreme Blue and Arctic Fox Poseidon
My two favorite products for maintaining my blue hair are oVertone Extreme Blue and Arctic Fox's Poseidon. I love the color of both, but they have some differences - Arctic Fox lasts longer, but oVertone smells a lot better (AF is waaaay too fruity smelling) and makes my hair softer. Next time I get it colored professionally (once this has grown out and I need to get it bleached & colored again), I'm going to have my stylist use Poseidon. The color we used this last time - Nightfall by Pulp Riot- was a great navy blue, but has definite green undertones as it fades. Poseidon leans purple, which I like a lot better.

Lora Zombie - The One You Feed
As a end-of-session gift to myself, I bought a signed print of "The One You Feed" by Lora Zombie. It's one of my favorite pieces she's done, though #1 will always be "The King and the Princess," which I spent an inordinate amount of money to have professionally framed. I'm over it...it looks amazing and I love it...so it's fine. 😎 I also own a signed blue Unicorn Kiss, a framed 24" x 18" print of Birds with Hats, a small canvas of Cosmic Unicorn and a small print of Dark Unicorn. She has a couple others I really love (one might be my next end-of-session present, lol) - Space Frenchie, The Great Soul and Birds Birds Birds. And if I ever have kids, Creation of Color is going in the baby room.  😊

A little card came with the print:
"A fight is going on inside you. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. Which wolf will win? The one you feed."

Any great finds so far in 2019 that you'd care to share?

  1. Well that was a FUN read and a great idea too. I'm always interested in seeing what has worked out well. Thanks! So glad the tattoo reference was for eye makeup! Whew! I really like the card that came with "The One You Feed". Words to live by, right? I am coveting the first item- the hair brush. What makes it a "wet" brush? Am I too old because I don't ever remember hearing that term. I want to try the eye gel too! You continue to impress me as a careful, smart, (sometimes overabundant) shopper!

  2. I assume it's called a wet brush because it's made specifically for use when your hair is wet? 👧 And let me know if you want to try the eye gel!
