Reading list 2017: Part 1

I'm taking a hiatus from my hiatus to post my reading list so far for 2017.

  1. Locked Doors (An Andrew Thomas Novel) by Blake Crouch
    - Finished it on January 1st.
  2. Break You (An Andrew Thomas Novella) by Blake Crouch
  3. The Spire by Richard North Patterson
    - Confession: when I bought this my brain only read "Patterson" as the author, which meant I thought it was written by James Patterson. Oops. :) That being said, I will likely purchase more from this Patterson again.
  4. Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica
    - I'm a big Mary Kubica fan. I recently bought her new book, Every Last Lie. Her books are suspenseful and creepy...not in a horror movie kind of way, but more in a keep-you-guessing-stress-you-out-in-a-good-way kind of way.
  5. Will Greyson, Will Greyson by John Green
  6. Swimsuit by James Patterson
  7. Lifeguard by James Patterson
  8. Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica
    - Also good, but Pretty Baby was better.
  9. Withering Heights by Emily Bronte
    - I do not understand why this is considered a love story. It's more of a tragedy...but not in a sweet, romantic sense. It's about sad, selfish people who make others miserable when they don't get what they want. Can't say I was a fan. Give me her sister Charlotte's Jane Eyre any day.
  10. Wolf Lake (a novel: Dave Gurney) by John Verdon
  11. The Chemist by Stephanie Meyer
    - Yes, that Stephanie Meyer...but it's in no way vampire related. :) It's one of my favorite books I've read this year and would definitely recommend it.
  12. You've been warned by James Patterson
  13. High Noon by Nora Roberts
  14. Let It Snow by John Greene, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle
    - This YA novel was three stories written by three different authors that all tie together. It was an interesting concept that was fairly well executed.
  15. River's End by Nora Roberts
  16. Airframe by Michael Crichton
    - This book was a bit technical for my taste, which is my general criticism of Crichton's books. The overarching story was interesting, but got a bit bogged down in the details.
  17. Pines (Wayward Pines Series) by Blake Crouch
    - I've been wanting to watch the show Wayward Pines M. Night Shyamalan directed an episode. I decided to read the books first, which was good because there are only 2 seasons of the show and there are 3 books. According to the information I could find, they aren't sure if/when they will make a (final) season 3, which would have been supremely frustrating to find out while watching the show.
  18. Wayward (Wayward Pines Series) by Blake Crouch
  19. The coincidence of coconut cake by Amy E. Reichert
  20. Eight hundred grapes by Laura Dave
  21. Where are the children? by Mary Higgins Clark
    - I'm not a huge Mary Higgins Clark fan, but this has been my favorite so far. Slightly predictable, but still interesting.
  22. The Girl Next Door by Brad Parks
  23. Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
    - The Girl on the Train set a really high bar, so it was unsurprising that this couldn't quite contend. Still interesting and worth reading, but it wasn't as good as her first book.
  24. Crazy House by James Patterson
    - Not my favorite James Patterson book. It was an interesting idea that just didn't quite work.
  25. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (second time!)
    - I love this book. LOVE it. Once I read it I bought every other book Liana Moriarty has written. While they're all really good, this one is still my favorite. I re-read it after watching the HBO show that came out this year.
  26. Don't Look Now by Daphne du Maurier
    - This ended up being a collection of short stories, a writing form of which I am not a fan.
  27. Hector and the search for happiness by Francois Lelord
    - One of the rare times when the movie was better than the book.
  28. Tribute by Nora Roberts
  29. The Alienist by Caleb Carr
    - I just ran across a commercial for the TNT series that is coming out this fall. The book is interesting, but has taken me a long time to get through (I think I've been reading it about 3 weeks and still haven't finished.

    1. Hey, what do you know?! I'll have to go fix that at some point. 😊

The numbered Patterson titles are part of a series...each one a higher number as you go along. I think he's up to 16 as of this year.
