Work in progress...

Back in May I posted about ArtistRising and that I'd set up an account with them to (hopefully) sell some of my photographs. No bites yet, but that's ok. The commission is only 30%, so for a $19.99 print, I'd only make $5.99 off the sale. Not what I'd call big bucks...but it's at least a start.

I've since started looking into other ways to market my photography. I should say "looking," since it's still a work in progress (hence the title of this post). I have had a handful of my photos turned into canvas prints that I am going to try selling to the gift shop at the Capitol (they like to buy local) and on Etsy. I also had prints made in 4x6 and 8x10...the idea being that someone could buy the print for much less than a canvas print and then frame & mat it themselves. I ordered some photo sleeves on Amazon to slip the prints into for resale. I figured this would be the best way to display them without them getting all fingerprint-y...and it gives me a surface upon which to attach an address label with limited info for Wilde Photography and a price.

I have no delusions about making a living from selling photography...or even making more than mad money. Photography is an enjoyable hobby and if I can have fun and bring in a little extra income, all the better. My monetary investment thus far has been minimal and I plan to keep it that way. No reason to fork out a lot of money to never even make it back!

Before I forget...curious about the name? I wanted something short and easy to remember and Katie's Photography sounded lame. Naturally Oscar Wilde came to mind...he has a quote for everything and his last name is catchy and easy to spell, so I decided to run with that. The picture above is the Google+ cover I created to go along with my Wilde Photography email address. Once I finally get everything up and running, I'll post links to everything so you can check it out!

Until then...happy Friday and have a great weekend!
