Red, white and blue! :)

I realized today just how patriotic my hair was for the 4th of July. I have natural red highlights...a growing number of grey hairs (they shall count for white)...and the lovely blue highlights that made their appearance post-wedding. I had a wedding to attend on the 4th and decided I not to shock everyone by showing up with blue hair. :)

It's become something of a tradition...this is year two anyway...for me to attempt blue highlights for the 4th of July. I have yet to be completely satisfied with the results, but sans bleaching first and then dyeing it (which is not going to happen), my dark, dark hair is not really conducive to adding color.

Last year I bought Midnight Blue hair chalk, which had its pros and cons.
Pros: cheap, easy to apply, washed out very easily.
Cons: it rubbed off on things fairly easily and didn't show up well on my hair. It quickly looked faded out.

This year I decided to try Garnier's Color Styler in Blue Burst.
Pros: color shows up better on my hair, though best seen in a braid (see above)...when it's just down, there's only a slight blue hue. It's a little pricier than the chalk, but still relatively cheap. It was fairly easy to apply...once dried and set, it hasn't seemed to rub off on things.
Cons: It's not a one shot deal. I'm on day 3 of blue hair...not that I actually mind. The dye is liquid and so made a bigger mess than the chalk. It does rub off while wet, so your comb is going to get blue dye on it.

Overall it's just a fun way to do something a little different. I'm contemplating getting Red Temptation, the red version of Blue Burst, just for the heck of it. :)

P.S. For some reason my post on Friday didn't...well, post! That's rather disappointing. It was short and sweet, wishing my folks a very happy 33rd Wedding Anniversary. So while it's a little late, happy anniversary...and I hope the next 33 years are just as...interesting. :)

LOVE the blue streak, by the way (and gee, I never thought I'd be saying that, ha!)
