Technology is an amazing thing...

Believe it or not, I have a fairly strong curious streak. And a slightly more obvious obsessive one. Generally I keep both reasonably in check, but from time to time something of particular interest overrides my good judgement. Generally this has been limited to shoes or in one case a dress from Anthropologie that I fell in love with that sold out twice before I finally decided to track it down in another state (I regret nothing).

Instead of calling stores and tracking down clothes, Google and Facebook were my allies in finding out a little info on a certain attractive gentleman. Spoiler alert, the story isn't really that interesting and doesn't end well...other than it's insane what information you can find online!!

I was at an event last week and saw a guy there I hadn't seen in years. He's almost tall-ish, dark and handsome...and wearing a (non-military) uniform. :)  Didn't get a chance to talk to him...and couldn't remember his name for the life of me. Back in the day I would always get him mixed up with a guy a friend of mine used to date, which is rather problematic in the tracking-him-down department.

Enter Facebook!

I started checking the friends lists of people we could potentially know in common. No luck. Then voila! A photo was posted by a friend who also attended the event that had a couple people tagged...except him of course. I dug around a little bit...and then noticed that the original post-er looked familiar.

Bingo!

Since we aren't friends, there wasn't much I could see on his wall. As I flipped through his timeline covers (what?!), I noticed one that looked suspiciously like a wedding picture. Rats. But he wasn't wearing a wedding ring at the event. Hmm. Lucky for me, the wedding pic was stamped with the photographer's name.

Enter Google!

Found the photographer's website. Searched under his name....and up pops some incredible pictures of him and his gorgeous wife. They were married in 2009.

Crap. So why no wedding ring?

Back to Google.

Thanks to the photographer's website, I now had Mrs. Handsome's name. Searching under both I found...their divorce degree published in the paper in December 2014. Boo. They made a really cute couple. And they have a daughter. And they were married in a Catholic Church.

I warned this didn't end happily.

While poking around I also found an article about him from when he was in the miliary and served as a Chaplain's assistant (the chaplain was the priest that then officiated his wedding a couple years later). Oh yeah, and he played for the Huskers in College. And...(non-military) uniform!

Sigh.

While it's a little depressing to find that he's off limits (assuming lack of annulment), it was also nice to know he's not worth pining over due to aforementioned off limits-ness. And that I could be sleuthy. And that I should find a way to get my personal information purged from the internet, because between Google and Facebook there's way too much information available to Joe Public out there. :S

On a completely unrelated topic, I'm taking a conceal carry class tomorrow. :) Senators and staffers were offered the chance to take the class for free and so I decided to go for it. I highly doubt I will go on to get a permit, since I son't intend to buy a gun...but I figure it's good "life knowledge." It's an all day class, which is why I'm posting this a little early, given I will be sitting in a classroom & then in an indoor shooting range and thus otherwise occupied until the evening.

UPDATE:
I not only survived the class but I passed the written exam (or "celebration of knowlege," as the instructor called it) but shot 30/30 to qualify in the range portion of it. Not too shabby for someone who has never shot (or held) a gun before!

On that note, happy almost Friday. Be safe and enjoy the weekend!

  2. You made me laugh! "(I regret nothing)." And- You would make a great online detective for a local law enforcement agency. :)

    1. For the sheriff's department, perhaps? Not that I'd use it as a means to be in his general vicinity...or anything. :D
