The Railyard is one of the best renovation efforts Lincoln has accomplished in a long time. With all the new stores and restaurants, it seems to have been a good economic decision for the Haymarket area...plus, it looks really nice! :)
One of the things they included was a giant outdoor screen called "The Cube" at the back of an open seating area in the middle of the Railyard. It primarily displays art and nature scenes, but occasionally shows sporting events and movies.
This time of year all the benches and seats are removed from the courtyard area and it's turned into...an ice rink! Such a clever idea and use of space! With how cold Nebraska winters get, no one in their right mind would have a use for all that outdoor seating, so taking advantage of a seasonal activity in the space was a really good decision. As enthusiastic as I am about the rink, I have yet to get down there. I'm hoping to in the next couple of weeks...combining ice skating with dinner at Hiro88 or Leadbelly's, which is a block or two away. After looking at Leadbelly's menu, I'm going to vote for there! I've never been there and the menu looks delicious!
Dang it, now I really hungry!
There's not much about winter that I like - other than getting to wear boots - so it would be nice to have a season-dependent activity to get out and do around here!
Enjoy and happy Friday!
