The little things...

It's the little things that make life easier. Finding quarters to pay a meter you didn't remember you had in your purse...or a $20 bill you left in your coat pocket last winter. Trying a new soup on a cold day (even though you're not really a soup person) and it's delicious. Mmm.

Recently my mom mentioned something innovative to the cashier at The Container Store and he got all excited about what a great "life hack" it was...the "hack" he then shared with us was an easy way to de-shell a hardboiled egg whole. You peel off the shell on just the top of the narrow end...then peel off the shell on the wide end...and then blow on the wide end to pop it out whole. Admittedly I haven't tried it yet ('cause I don't like hard boiled eggs), but it's pretty nifty regardless.

Here are some of my recent "life hack" revelations:

- A shot of Peachtree schnapps in a glass of Chardonnay. I tried a glass of this last Friday night with dinner...well, two glasses. It was a tough week. :)  Adding a shot of peach schnapps to your Long Island Ice Tea is also delicious.

- A dash or two of Cinerator whiskey in a steaming mug of hot chocolate. It kind of tastes like Mexican Hot Chocolate. If you've never had Mexican Hot Chocolate, I would highly recommend trying Abuelita Mexican Chocolate or Ibarra. You can buy either at most grocery stores. They are delicious.

- I've recently been researching stainless steel cookware and something I've read in pretty much every review is that Bar Keepers Friend is amazing for cleaning stainless steel. It scrubs off rust, baked on food and those rainbow colored stains stainless steel is famous for getting. And it's cheap!

- "On the House Classic Pastas" from Maggiano's. Choose one for today and one for tomorrow. That's right. There's a smaller section of the menu with 10 pasta items on it...you pick one to eat as your meal and then pick another one (any one of the 10) to take home as "leftovers"...no extra charge!  My favorite is the Four Cheese Ravioli with Pesto Alfredo Sauce. Delicious!

Anything you've come across lately that you care to share??
