Kansas City Bound

I'm posting a day early because I'm hoping a significant chunk of tomorrow will be spent wandering the ever winding pathways of the new IKEA in Merriam, Kansas. That's right...the midwest finally got an IKEA and I'm making my first of many visits to the new store. :)


But let me back up a little...



Mom has been working like a crazy person (not that she's insane, just that she's been insanely busy) since June...and we'd planned a four night trip to Denver this weekend for a much needed break. But due to her work schedule (she's flying to CA next week) and Joey still recovering from his recent back injury (he had a doggie hernia), we decided that would be too long for us to be gone and decided to head down to Kansas City for two nights instead...a pleasant alternative to just cancelling the trip all together.*

Along with touring IKEA, we plan to hit up the Country Club Plaza for some much needed retail therapy and hopefully check out some places we've never visited before, like the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I'm one of those weird people who really enjoys art and museums...and the campus looks so beautiful on the outside, I am looking forward to seeing the inside. Plus, it's free. :)  We also might finally make it down to the Power and Lights District, a part of Kansas City we've never explored. I never mind finding fun new places and delicious restaurants. So it should make for an enjoyable weekend.

* My greatest disappointment in not going to Denver is that I recently found out there is a Quintero Street in Aurora and I REALLY wanted to take a picture by it. But alas, it will probably have to wait till some time next year.
