Tomorrow the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who will be similcasted around the world - BBC America is airing it in the US, starting at 2:50pm EST. Theaters in major cities around the US and over 75 other countries are airing it and showings have been sold out for weeks. Lesser venues, such as Omaha and Lincoln, are showing it on Monday, Nov. 25th, which is when I'm going to see The Day of the Doctor.
I originally bought tickets for the 7:30pm showing up in Omaha, which sold out within a few days. Shortly after they added a second showing at 10pm, Lincoln decided to jump on the bandwagon and announced two showings on the 25th as well. I exchanged my tickets and am now going here in town with a friend...and while not dressing up for the event (I will likely just wear a Doctor Who themed t-shirt), I am hoping there are people cosplaying the event whom I can annoy by taking endless pictures. :)
So far I have faithfully avoided all the trailers for The Day of the Doctor. I don't want a preview of the episode...I want to be surprised as things unfold. However, the BBC recently released a short webisode prequel to the anniversary episode called The Night Of The Doctor. It's not a teaser and there aren't any spoilers...so if you're being careful like me to avoid such things, you're safe watching this!
Needless to say, there's a ton of Doctor Who related...well, everything...right now. Even Google has gotten involved...well, New Zealand's Google, anyway. If you go to Google.co.nz, their banner is of the 11 Doctors and you can play a game with each of them (same game, different avatar)...hopefully the US Google will post it tomorrow. Yahoo put together a "beginner's guide" for all the poor people who have no idea why everyone is so excited and wearing t-shirts with a blue police box on them. Another site put together a pretty good "infographic" with a blurb about the TARDIS, each of the Doctors and the tools of the Timelord.
It's fun to see everyone getting excited for the 50th Anniversary!
Enjoy and Allons-y!

I ran across a list of "15 facts we bet you didn't know" about Doctor Who. It won't let me post them all, so below are the ones I did know about. :)
ReplyDelete*– Paul McGann is technically the longest-serving Doctor, though he appeared only once on television in 1996 (until last week!). Tom Baker is, of course, the longest serving on television, having starred in more Doctor Who shows than any other actor.
*– The TARDIS has a six-sided control console because it was designed to have six operatives.
*– The TARDIS wheezes and groans during landing because Doctor leaves the brakes on.
*– Peter Capaldi and Karen Gillan not only both had Doctor Who roles before they were cast as, respectively, the Twelfth Doctor and companion Amy Pond, but actually appeared in the same episode.
*– The TARDIS looks like an old fashioned police lock-up box because its cloaking device, the chameleon circuit, malfunctioned after his first visit to 1963 London.
Crap, I forgot to include the link to the rest of the list.
