Music means a lot to me. Not that I play an instrument or create it myself, but I'm always listening to and connecting with it. Like any form of art (paintings, literature, movies, etc), music can be purely entertaining or it can speak to your soul...or both.
There are many bands/groups that pull off the latter, but a few of my favorites are Mumford & Sons, Goo Goo Dolls, The Script and, most recently, Imagine Dragons (thank you, Pandora!). Each group is fairly distinct, though they all seem to fall into the pop rock/folk rock/indie rock genres...with the exception of The Goo Goo Dolls - they are arguably pop rock-y, though in no way indie/folk rock (at least to me).
Thanks to Pandora.com adding several Imagine Dragons songs to my play list, I got a chance to listen and decide that I really liked them before buying their CD, Night Visions. A couple of their songs have a deep, haunting quality to them...Radioactive, Demons and Bleeding Out are the most distinct in that way. I don't really mean "deep" as in "full of meaning," but more as a tonal quality. A reverberating depth you can feel in your bones. I don't really know how to explain it other than that. Some have a bit more bounce to them, like It's Time and On Top Of The World, which are also less...dark. Though if you like dark (and a bit twisted), you should check out the other Radioactive music video...personally, it's a bit much for me.
I did noticed some videos on Youtube are from their performance at the Red Rock Amphitheater in Morrison, CO back in May. I'll bet it was an amazing show...I've been to one concert there - Josh Groban earlier this month (amazing, by the way) - and can imagine how awesome a rock group would sound at that venue!
In case you're at all interested in buying Night Visions, the deluxe edition has 16 songs on it and is only $5.99 for the MP3 download on Amazon...and $12.99 for the CD version that also comes with a free MP3 download of the album, which is nice because you can listen to it while you're waiting for the CD to arrive. Personally I like having a physical copy (CD) so that I can listen to it in my car.
Anyway, I would recommend checking them out...as well as Mumford & Sons, Goo Goo Dolls and The Script, if you've never listened to any of them before!

Imagine Dragons fun fact: they write & produce all their own songs. They collaborate on some of them, but they at least participate in writing/producing all of them. I always think that's cool. :)
