I had a bit of a Covid scare this week. Monday morning started with my coworker calling me at the office to let me know she just tested positive for Covid-19. This was bad on a number of fronts:
- First - that she caught it. Out of everyone in the office, Kate was the last person who needed to test positive. She's high risk in several categories, plus anything respiratory related is really tough on her, taking much longer to recover than most.
- Second - the only place she could have caught it was at the Capitol. Other than when we came back into session in July-August, Kate's been working from home and stays in because of reason #1. She's been extra careful this whole time, joking that an exciting day is when she goes through the Walgreens drive thru. Her granddaughter, who lives with her, was even going to stay at a friend's house for Thanksgiving break to make sure she didn't bring Covid back with her from college.
- Third - I was around her for several hours on Fri., November 6th, which is the day she most likely caught it. We had a hearing that day, so she came into the office for it (she's the Retirement Committee Legal Counsel). Thankfully we were all wearing masks the whole time.
Sometime in the last couple days she started not feeling well, developing a headache and exhaustion. She decided to get tested, just to be on the safe side, not really expecting a positive result. As of today both those symptoms are worse, but she's hanging in there.
After I got off the phone with her yesterday morning, I scheduled a Covid test through TestNebraska, which would have been this morning at 8am. I also called the MedExpress near our house, in case they could do a rapid Covid test. By 8:40am they were already booked for the day (they only schedule the day of). I called my family doctor's office, in case they could do it...and thankfully they could! I went in yesterday afternoon at 1:30pm and by 2pm knew I'd tested negative (for the 4th time). Whew.
My boss was tested today and my other coworker, Tyler, is being tested tomorrow. Because it takes a few days to get the results, my boss decided to shut down the office till next week, so we're all working remotely for now. I need to remember to check voicemail in the morning. 😬
Please keep Kate in your prayers, that she has a quick and complete recovery. 🙏

UPDATE 11/21: Tyler tested negative too. Whew.
