Back in September I put together a post of 10 Best Amazon Purchases I'd made so far in 2019 (an idea I borrowed from PopSugar). Since we're about halfway through 2020, I thought I'd put together an updated list from my favorite purchases so far this year.
- This is actually a re-purchase. I bought it last year for the office and brought it home to use in my bedroom once the weather cooled off. Since I didn't want to relinquish the one in my room, I just bought a new one to help mitigate the oppressive heat at work. I like it because it's reasonably quiet and small/medium sized, yet powerful enough to circulate the air and cool things down.
- I read a post recommending this lightweight serum to help reduce dark spots and hyperpignmetation. I have some scaring from adult cystic acne that bothers me and this seems to be helping. It's not a miracle serum...the dark spots haven't magically disappeared...but I can see at least a little difference. It's also helped some with healing...the turmeric in it is anti-inflammatory and helps reduce redness and irritation more quickly.
- I've had a hard time finding a good dry shampoo. I have very fine hair, so most products just weigh it down. This rather negates the purpose of dry shampoo, since your hair will still look greasy. I found a list of dry shampoos based on your hair type and decided to try Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day, since it was recommended for fine hair and had lots of good reviews. It's rather pricey for a dry shampoo ($36 for a 7.3 oz bottle), but so far I'd say it's worth it. It saves wear-and-tear on my hair and allows me to get an extra 20 minutes of sleep. It's also a fairly large bottle, so I expect it will last a while (I don't use dry shampoo on a regular basis, so that helps too).

- When the Masquerade Ball was rescheduled for June, I realized the black velvet dress I'd bought for it would probably be too heavy/warm to wear. I started looking around for an alternative and found the dress above, which I bought in a pretty medium blue (I couldn't find a picture in the right color). I finally decided on a mask too. Fingers crossed they don't postpone the ball again (or worse, cancel)!
- Lora Zombie comes out with new art pieces periodically, usually based on a theme. This one is part of her Stay Home collection. The tagline is "Feel Safe, Create Calm, Enjoy The Small Things." I kinda love it a lot.

Gap Factory - Favorite Crewneck T-Shirt - black & white
- I love this t-shirt (I buy it in tall). It's so versatile and easy to dress up or down. I can wear it with jeans or under a blazer (or both, technically 😎). It's also frequently on sale. I think the last two I bought were $8 each (on sale + coupon code). I own the equivalent from Old Navy too, but these are definitely nicer and worth the slightly higher price.
Gap Factory - Ribbed Tank Top
- I own this tank in several colors and have bought them for years. I'm actually wearing it in black right now. 😊 It's comfortable, wears well and has a high back (which I really like). They're also frequently on sale.
- This tea is AMAZING. I tried it at a friend's house and bought some for myself the next day. If you like cinnamon, it's a must have. Just don't steep it too long or else it will be really strong!!
- Since I'm working from home part-time and will be for the foreseeable future, I decided to upgrade my home office. I bought a monitor, mouse and keyboard to attach to my laptop and, at the suggestion of a friend, this USB hub. I'm weird and really like having a wired keyboard and mouse, and this allows me to unplug just one thing from my laptop when I need to move it.
- I finally found a mask I like for the (hopefully not cancelled) masquerade ball. I probably ordered 10 total from Amazon (over the last couple of months) and landed on this one. It's different, delicate and not nearly as constricting at the full coverage masks.
- I'm on a bit of a Neil Gaiman kick. A friend mentioned how much they liked Coraline, which is the first one I read...and I'm now on my 4th of his books. I ordered the illustrated version of Neverwhere (a happy accident), which is the author's "preferred text," since it's the 3rd iteration of the book. Gaiman wrote the original in England in tandem with the BBC show of the same name, and then published a version in the US a few years later. This is his combination the two, pulling what he liked most out of the other two editions.
- Speaking of Neil Gaiman, I bought the gift edition on purpose because I liked the fancy cover. 😊 There are some differences from the movie (obviously), some of which I liked and some I didn't...like they needed to include the lion and unicorn scene in the movie and the book is lacking in the lightening catchers department.
- Last but not least, a practical purchase. 💊 I was taking a fair number of pills for a while (Vit B complex, Vit C, Magnesium, Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and Turmeric), which was a pain to compile every morning, so I decided to become an old lady and use a pill box. The side benefit is that I always know what day it is, just by looking at the box! 😀

Have you bought anything recently that you thought "that was a really good purchase!"?

That copy of Neverwhere is so pretty! And hooray for Neil Gaiman! And yes, I definitely agree that the Lion and Unicorn scene should have been included. I haven’t seen the movie in so long, I can’t remember what it changed...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "best of" list. I'm a big fan of knowing what purchases worked out well. Here's a practical purchase I've liked a lot- Dusk to Dawn bulbs in soft white. My outside lights go on each day at dusk, off at dawn (unless it is overcast- then they stay on). The color temperature is important to me (as you well know!) and they give lots of light but not stark white. Amen to that! Also- Burt's Bees Natural tinted lip balm. Very nice.
