Wednesday night mom and I got to see The Piano Guys perform live at the Orpheum in Omaha. I've been watching their YouTube videos for years and was really looking forward to seeing them in person.
I was not disappointed. The Piano Guys were very entertaining and quite talented. They said the favorite "title" they've been called is The Four Dorky Dads. It really fits them, in the best way possible. They were goofy, joking around and having fun while playing beautifully composed music. They love what they're doing and it really shows.
They played some great pieces - a few of my favorites were the Batman Medley (pictured above), Let It Go - Vivaldi's Winter, This Is Your Fight Song (an Amazing Grace mashup), Beethoven's 5 Secrets (Beethoven + Coldplay), Christina Perri's A Thousand Years and Adele's Hello/Motzart's Lacrimosa (They said if Adele and Motzart had ever dated, this is what their breakup song would sound like). Their encore was "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction (pictured to the right). All four guys play on the piano, in some form or another.
The performance was longer than I'd expected. It started at 7:30pm and finished up a little after 10pm, with a 15-20 minute around 9pm. They did a great job of keeping it entertaining and not at all recital-y. It was well paced between music and monologue-ing a fair bit.
Here are some other pieces I love that they didn't play:
Lord of the Rings - The Hobbit
Mission Impossible Theme feat. Lindsay Stirling
"Cello Wars" - a Star Wars Parody
Their tour is almost over, but if you have a chance to attend one of their performances, I would highly recommend it. They were in Red Rock last summer and hopefully will be again. I'd fly to Denver to see them play at that venue.
Enjoy and have a great weekend!
~ Katie
