Earthquake!

Although Nebraska is mostly known for being in tornado alley, it's also home to a pretty hefty fault line. As in earthquake fault line. The Humboldt Fault Zone, to be exact.

I've always found it really funny that I live closer to a fault line in Nebraska than I did when I lived in California! :)

But the particular earthquake to which I was referring in the title has nothing to do with the Humboldt Fault Line. This earthquake actually took place on Saturday, Sept. 3rd in Oklahoma. It was a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that took place at 7:02am and was felt across the midwest..."People in Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri; Chicago; Gilbert, Arizona; Fayetteville and Little Rock, Arkansas; Des Moines, Iowa; Memphis, Tennessee; and Big Lake in the southwest part of Texas, all reported feeling the earthquake."

Lincoln didn't make the list, but it was felt here too.

I woke up Saturday morning around 7:05am and thought "huh...my bed is swaying." I thought I heard a storm outside and was sufficiently groggy to think the storm must be bad enough make the house move a bit. After the fact, I'll bet branches from the tree near the house were hitting it, since the tree would have been moving from the earthquake too, making it sound like wind/rain hitting the side of the house. Given the fact that that's never happened before (at least to that extent - thunder has made the house shudder), I probably should have known something new/different was up.

It lasted less than a minute (maybe 20-30 seconds? I was mostly asleep, so...). I was probably asleep again before it was officially over. But hey, I've survived my first earthquake...in Lincoln, NE! :)

That's my big news from the weekend. I was recovering from a cold, so I didn't do too much.

Tonight I have a softball game. Go Steaks! We won last week...and lost the two weeks before that. So we'll see how it goes tonight. Wish us luck!
