People love naming their children strange things - Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter) is generally my go-to, though there are plenty stranger. Jena Malone from The Hunger Games Series had a son earlier this year and named him Ode Mountain DeLorenzo Malone. Sam Worthington thought "Rocket Zot" sounded like a good idea when naming his son. And of course there's the Kim and Kayne's "North West" debacle. Apple actually doesn't sound so bad anymore...
Admittedly choosing a name that half your kid's classmates share isn't ideal either. While Jessica, Elizabeth, James and Michael are good, solid names, they're also...well, a little boring. Some of the more recently popular ones are fun options - Liam (one of my favorites) and Emma feel a bit more classic than say, Hunter. Or Tanner. Or any other job related name...though if I ever met someone named Blacksmith, I would give them the highest of fives. :)
I've always been a fan of normal but unusual names. I feel like I've written about this before, but I couldn't find anything after scrolling back through old posts. I also definitely lean Celtic in my preferences.

PureWow posted a "What Should You Name Your Child" quiz (which is what precipitated this whole post), so I took it for the fun of it. While I don't like either they came up with, I do think it's a little funny that they're at least in the ballpark theme-wise. I looked up Eamon, because quite frankly I wasn't sure how to pronounce it. It's Irish for Edmund and is pronounced AY-mon.

What name did you get when you took the quiz? And what are some of your favorite baby names in general?

Song of the day: I figured James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James" would be rather fitting. :)

Got Edith or Gus...the latter of which reminds me of someone's dog. Ha.
ReplyDeleteLol...yeah, and Gus Henningsgaard just doesn't have a great ring to it. :)
