I try to be realistic in what I'd like to add/do differently in a given year. Why set yourself up for failure?
2016 New Years Resolutions
- Read 60 books (I read 55 in 2015)
- Put more in savings this year than last (which was much better than 2014, so there's some improvement).
- Get in better shape...'cause dammit I'm going to a wedding in April where I'll see a lot of people I haven't seen in years and want to look greeeeat. :)
- Drink less...though with this being a short session year, this is the squiffiest resolution out of the four. Last year was definitely my highest alcohol consumption year-to-date...not that I was intoxicated more than other years (I don't think I got drunk once, actually), but wine and I frequently had dates on Friday nights. :)
2016 Bucket List
- Go on a cruise
- Rent a cabin/apartment in or near Denver for a week post-session. Peace, quiet, solitude.
- Visit Iceland.
* Northern Lights Circle Tour
* Northern Comfort in a Holiday Cottage
* Iceland Full Circle Winter
* Northern Lights Adventure in the West Fjords
- For more unrealistic bucket list items, check out my Pinterest "bucket list" list. :)
Apparently 2015 didn't get a list. Makes sense...the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015 were really rough.
Katie's New Years Resolutions 2014
(Contemporary comments about each in bold)
1.) Get to the gym at least once a week. Hahaha...haha...ha. Cough.
- I'm shooting for realistic here, people. Ideally, I'd like to get there more often, but I don't want to set myself up for failure...and once a week will be more than I'm doing now, so even that will be an improvement over the status quo. I bought a Groupon for the nice, little gym I went to in HS, so I'm one step closer to getting in the door. :)
2.) Only post on here twice a week. DONE!
- I'm planning on Tuesdays and Fridays...as you can see by my new and improved "tag line." Posting every day is fun and an interesting challenge, but with session starting on January 8th, there will be days I'll be too swamped to post anything...plus I am likely to post something more substantive than just a recipe or something of that ilk (and use words like "ilk") if it's only twice a week. :)
3.) Pay off my Chase credit card DONE! I have one credit card with a balance (US Bank)...and my Target RedCard, Dillards and Kohls cards haven't carried a balance in months. Actually, the RedCard has never carried a balance...as soon as I used it, I paid it off. :) And Christmas this year was paid out of savings, so nothing went on a credit card. (pats self on back)
- In an attempt to curb my spending, I paid off and closed most of my store credit cards (Express, Maurices, NY&Co., GAP) and consolidated my Discover & Southwest Airlines cards into a 0% interest Chase account earlier last year (2013), which I'm this close to paying off (should happen by the middle of January, knock on wood). All I'll have left are my Kohls card ($0 balance!) and my USBank credit card, which is currently carrying my Christmas expenditures & random Amazon purchases. Once I pay off the Chase account, I will have money going straight into savings, slowly accumulating for use down the road...a vast improvement over previous years. Yay me! :)

On a different topic, tomorrow is the first day of session. It's Senator Coash's last session and Senator Kolterman's second session. By mid-morning we'll know whether or not Senator Kolterman is the new chairman of the Retirement Committee...if he wins, then I will be promoted to committee clerk. I'm trying not to be too anxious about it...if he wins, he wins...and if not, I get to just stay an AA.
And wouldn't you know, my back decided to crap out on me Sunday night. I went to the chiropractor yesterday, which helped thankfully...and am going back this afternoon. I'm doing better, but it's still rather irksome...especially since I have a ticket to see Sherlock: The Abominable Bride at 7pm tonight. Arrgh...and ouch.
Wish me luck, that this session goes well!

Song of the day: "Little Do You Know" by Alex and Sierra has popped up on Pandora quite a lot recently and I'm a big fan. Enjoy.
