Traveling Companion - Arkansas Edition

All of time and space...and you pick Arkansas?!

Yup. Our first adventure was indeed to Morrilton, Arkansas...a small town about an hour northwest of Little Rock. My folks and I were down there visiting some family friends last weekend and I decided to take The (mini) Doctor out for a photographic spin. :)

So far the first picture (above) is my favorite. The Doctor was thrilled to run across this lovely Starbucks in the Dallas airport. After getting up at 3:30am to make a 6:30am flight out of Omaha, caffeine was required for survival! He also found a Baskin Robbins, though we didn't partake till we passed back through on our way home. I got Quarterback Crunch and Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream. They went very well with WhataBurger. Also, gotta say I'm a big fan of the spicy ketchup. :)

Saturday was spent traveling, grocery shopping in Little Rock...then making and eating dinner at our friends house. Mom kindly offered to cook, so we made this great pasta dish that requires red wine for the sauce...consequently I have found my new favorite wine - Cabernet Savignon from Bliss Winery in Mendocino, CA. I'm not generally a Cabernet fan, but this one had a really nice, spicy bite to it. On the website I linked it's listed for $16.99, but at Whole Foods it was only $11.99...which isn't a bad price for a good wine. I think my current record is spending $20 on a bottle.

Hahaha...so, tangent...I was looking at the wine website and they have a Tasting Notes section. Under Aromas and Flavors it says: Black and Red Cherries, Soft Berries, Eucalyptus, Pepper, Oak and Coconut. I'll give them the notes of cherry. pepper and oak...but coconut? Really? There was no coconut-iness to that wine! Nice try, guys! :)

Sunday was another long day...whoever thought that having Mass at 8am was a good idea should get...extra purgatory time. :) We had a nice breakfast afterwards and then everyone split to take a nap/rest until mid-afternoon...or if you're me (and mini Doctor), watch Doctor Who! I'd been dying to watch "The Witch's Familiar" since it aired the night before...so that's what we did.  I was so "angry" at the end of "The Magician's Apprentice," that they'd made it a 2 part thing. I don't do patience well. :)

I'm REALLY looking forward to "Under the Lake," which airs tomorrow! Looks like it's going to be aaawesome! :)

In case you missed the season 9 premiere - "The Magician's Apprentice" - the BBC is streaming it for free right now! Just fyi!

Sunday night we went out to dinner at Colton's Steakhouse - evidence of which is below. No, I didn't take the picture at the restaurant. :) I stole a coaster and took the picture once I got back to my room, before heading outside to watch the lunar eclipse. I didn't get any good pictures, but it was amazing to watch. I've decided I need to view the next one from England or Scotland. The Guardian posted some amazing pictures which are what caused my decision. :)

It was a quick trip, so we headed home on Monday afternoon. We figured out while in Morrilton that it had been about 12 years since the last time I'd been down there to visit. I was still in high school at the time! Craziness!

Whelp...TGIF and have a good weekend! I intend to spend it sleeping as much as humanly possible! :)

Song of the day:  I'm in country kind of mood today...and I've decided to do another 2-for-1. The first one is really sweet - "
I Don't Dance by Lee Brice." I'd heard it on Pandora and just watched the music video. I wonder if it's real footage from his wedding...

Play It Again by Luke Byan is faster paced and fun. Makes me want to get up and dance.

I just love his little shoes and sonic screw driver! :)

  1. I so enjoyed your traveling companion. Nice trip and fun seeing good friends. Arkansas is not my idea of a vacation destination (right?) but we sure had a good time. Thanks for making it a blast!
