This final event featured the Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry with the Plain White T's...who, I would like to point out, were not wearing plain white t-shirts. False advertising, anyone? :)
After a quick dinner at Noodles & Co., we arrived at Pershing early (early!!) and found our seats before The Plain White T's started playing. I was pleasantly surprised how many of their songs I knew...Hey There Delilah, 1, 2, 3, 4, Rhythm of Love...which was nice because I hadn't expected to know any. That's one of the pros/cons of Pandora, that you end up listening and working at the same time and so have no idea who is actually singing...but at least you're getting exposed to new music you wouldn't have heard otherwise, so I still consider it a win.
After about a 20 minute break, Daughtry headed up to the stage. Boy does that man like his bright lights! I'm sure the venue played a part in that...since Pershing is on the small side, so a little light goes a long way! They performed some oldies-but-goodies - It's Not Over, Home, What About Now, Over You (love!) and a couple from his new CD, Baptized - Waiting for Superman, Battleships and Traitor. Before he sang Traitor, he mentioned it was written out of anger and angst at backstabbers in his life, and then about halfway through the song proceeded to introduce the members of his band. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it (like, "meet my backstabbers!"), but I thought it an odd choice for "meet the gang!" music. :)
Last but certainly not least were the Goo Goo Dolls. Near the beginning of their set, the lead singer Johnny Rzeznik mentioned he might have a little trouble singing and apologized in advance if he missed a few notes. His voice had been giving him trouble...no surprise after being on tour for a year and a half! But he did well and thankfully it wasn't really a problem or that noticeable. They performed some songs from their newest album, Magnetic - Rebel Beat, Bringing On The Light, as well as old favorites like Slide, Name and Black Balloon, at which point black balloons made an appearance on the floor to be batted around the crowd. The last song (before the encore) was Iris, which is my all time favorite GGD song. I was starting to get a little worried they weren't going to play it for some reason...but they were just saving the best for last. :)
Overall it was a great show. While I have to admit the performances by OneRepublic and The Script last week were better, having company at this concert made it more enjoyable! It's always more fun attending events with friends...and your boss and his wife! :)
Enjoy and happy Friday!
~ Katie
