Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D)
Not All Heroes Are Super.
Season one of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wrapped up on May 13th, but I wasn't able to watch the finale until last night. It was worth the wait! Since the pilot aired last September, the show has had it's highs and lows...but overall I would give it a ★★★★ rating. Thankfully it's one of the shows renewed for a second season, even garnering it's own spinoff, Agent Carter, starring “Captain America’s” Hayley Atwell.
For those who don't watch S.H.I.E.L.D., the short version is that since now that the world is now a scarier place, with superheroes, aliens and alien tech about, Director Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) placed Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) in charge of an "elite, covert team to find and deal with these threats wherever they are found." Which of course means that they are constantly flying around the globe, fighting off this and saving people from that.
Since this is a Joss Wheddon production (he's listed with "created by" and "series writing" credits), throughout the course of the season there have been many Wheddon veterans popping up, as ongoing cast members like Clark Gregg (Coulson) and J. August Richards (Mike Peterson/Deathlock) and as guest stars, such as Amy Acker (Audrey Nathan/The Cellist) and Patton Oswalt (Agent Eric Koenig). There have also been some other guest stars from the Avengers movie, Samuel L. Jackson (Director Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif from Thor).
The development of the characters from the pilot to the season finale, "Beginning of the End," was pretty good for a first season. There were a couple of twists I wasn't expecting, in characters and plot line, which is good. I don't like entirely predictable shows. It's also ties in with the Avengers movies, particularly the last one that just came out, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which I think is pretty cool. It is rated TV-PG, which would translate to a PG-13 rating if it were a movie, for Action Violence and Suggestive Content.
So if you're a Marvel fan, like superheroes or just love Agent Coulson, I would recommend finding a way to watch season one of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and adding season two to your fall TV show repertoire! :)
Enjoy and happy Friday!
~ Katie
