"Guilty Pleasures are defined by what we personally find pleasurable but wouldn’t necessarily admit, hence the guilt."
I don't really think of bacon as a guilty pleasure (except in the case of #5), but I couldn't find a better picture to use...plus, it made me smile. :) This seemed like a good topic for a Friday (guilty pleasures, not bacon), so I came with a list (in no particular order) of ten of my personal "guilty pleasures."
When people start listing out new movies, asking if I've seen them and it turns out that I've watched 5/6 movies they just rattled off, I feel like a bad person. Not bad-bad...just non-productive bad. I like keeping up with the latest releases, seeing them either in theater or waiting till they hit Redbox.
1½. TV show Marathons
I stole this from a list I saw, but it's true so I figure it's legit. A completely unproductive way to spend an evening (or day), but so nice when you can pull it off. I watched an entire season of the Mentalist in 2-3 days back in 2009. Nowadays marathons generally consist of 3-4 episodes in a row...but it's still a lot of fun and not something I'd cop to in front of just anyone. :)

2. Sleeping in
If I could sleep in every day, I would. I am a night owl and function better after at least 10am. On Saturdays, I don't see the AM hours unless absolutely necessary. I don't necessarily like to admit it, since a lot of people equate early-to-bed-early-to-rise with being productive and sleeping in with being lazy and unproductive. Plus most people my age have small children, so they're up by necessity and it makes me feel a little guilty that I am able to sleep in and relax.
3. Wearing PJs, whenever possible.
If I could live in PJs, I would. I love comfortable clothes and as soon as I get home from work (if I don't have other plans for the evening that take me out of the house), I climb into PJ pants or shorts and a Doctor Who t-shirt or a comfortable tank top. Or the occasional chemise. This is another favorite think that makes me feel a bit like a slacker (like sleeping in), though clearly not enough to stop. :)
4. Bacon Pancakes or Waffles
Talk about a plate of delicious, decadent, artery clogged death! The example below is from June of last year at The Original Pancake House (infinitely better than IHOP, btw) in Denver. Give me lots of butter, some maple syrup and I am one happy, happy woman. It's so wrong and yet so very, very right. :)
5. Looking at wedding dresses/reception ideas
I know this is very female of me and not at all unusual, but it's also not something single women tend to admit to. It's just a lot of fun looking for ideas, the latest fashions and at what's new. And Pinterest has made it infinitely easier to compile those ideas/examples in one place too. Yay Pinterest! :)

6. New Girl
This show is weird, dumb, somewhat inappropriate at times and downright hilarious. I love Zooey Deschanel and thinks she's adorable in this show...and pretty much always. She's super sweet and quirky...and I feel like she very much plays herself, which is fun and somewhat unusual. The quote to the right is from the show, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear she said something along the same lines in real life. :)
7. Modern Family
This is one of my all time favorite sitcoms. It's really well written, has great characters, is amazingly funny and nails it almost every episode. While I don't agree with the general "world view" of the show (which is why it's a guilty pleasure to watch it), I have to give them credit for amassing all that talent and chemistry together. Other shows have tried similar formats, like The New Normal, which didn't survive more than a season. Modern Family just works.
8. The Expendables #1 & #2...looking forward to #3
Gratuitous violence generally isn't my thing, but for whatever reason, I love these movies. And I can't tell you why! I mean, sure...they have some semblance of a story line...lots of explosions...old school action heroes...which is great, but not generally sufficient to keep a movie (or series) on my favorites list! And yet...
9. Death Race
I've got nothin'. I just like it. A lot. The end.

10. Puppy pictures
Don't laugh. Ok, go ahead. I don't really care. :) Puppies/dogs make me smile, so I like looking at cute pictures of them. I follow a couple people on Instagram simply because they post cute dog pictures...and have an entire board for dog pics on Pinterest. I mean seriously, how could that cute little guy not make you smile? :)
What are some of yours?

All of these, I can deal with on some level if I don't like it or whatever. #9 though, you have something wrong with your brain.
ReplyDeleteOf all the things I listed, that's my least defend-able. I have no reasonable explanation for it. I just really like that movie.
Delete#11...finishing off a container of ice cream. I don't mean like, eating an entire quart of ice cream. That would make me sick and I'd die. But there being just enough ice cream left in the container to justify simply eating out of it, instead of putting it in a bowl. Best...feeling...ever. Works great with gelato too, since those are smaller containers. :)
ReplyDeleteooooooooh..I feel like I just found a special place... where only those who care to look can see there are additions to the list...kinda like people that wait after the credits run after the movie and find that cool extra scene...!
ReplyDeleteI like#11, LOVE #10 and have to go read up on #9 to determine how unhappy I actually am about it.. ha ha ha....
