Anyway...moving on. :)
Before summer flitters away, I wanted to post this amazing "watermelon grill" idea that I can't wait to try! It's a fantastic combination two summer essentials...grills and watermelon! Granted it's definitely form over function, but who cares?! You could have a nice plate sitting next to or nearby with additional skewers of fruit, making it convenient for people to grab the fruit-on-a-stick and admire the cleverness of your decorations!
Looking at the picture, I can't tell what they used as "charcoal" under the grill skewers...blueberries, blackberries or dark/red grapes...but all of the above should work. Personally I'm not a big blueberry fan, so I'd probably shy away from those...at least if they were grapes or blackberries I'd eat them eventually! :) The other fruit choices seem pretty classic...watermelon (duh), honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi and grapes...providing a bright, colorful and healthy option as finger food or dessert!

The biggest concern I have in making this would be if the celery was strong or sturdy enough to hold up the watermelon. One solution would be to use the skewers to help fortify the base...to connect the celery ends (the end touching the plate or table) with skewers, just to give it a little more stability. And you'd have to be really careful not to scoop the hole in the base of the watermelon too deep either, since once you're through the rind there's just soft, porous melon to offer support for the celery!
Enjoy and happy grilling!
