Attic or Treehouse

When Matt and I were kids, Dad built us a cool treehouse in the backyard of our house in Folsom. It wasn't finished out like this one...it was two stories, open beam with a tarp roof, but to us it was epic and awesome. We always talked about spending the night in it, but never got around to it. As an adult, the room below looks much more comfortable and inviting. I could totally see spending the night curled up in there, with a board game and hot chocolate (or beer, if it were summer).

From the picture, my guess is this space is either the attic of a cabin or the finished area above a garage...it looks too small to be part of a regular house. The large picture window was really smart to include, allowing for air circulation (I would still find a way to get a fan up there) and the ability to enjoy the pleasant night sounds & smells - though I would put a screen on it so unwelcome guests such as bugs or bats are unable to join in on the attic/treehouse fun. Having at least one outlet (perfect for plugging in that fan!) and the light over the small window at the end of the room seem like good details to include. It makes me want to call a couple friends and have a good, ol' fashioned sleepover!

Side note: I admit to having a fascination with treehouses of late. PureWow posted a link/slideshow to treehouses for rent around the world and I checked out a few in the US...fell in love and now want to go stay at them! Well...not all of them. Some are bleak and spartan...but others are nice and cozy and some were downright luxurious and crazy expensive.

As I was looking for examples to include, I also ran across these rentals - The Redwood Treehouse and the Lake Arrowhead Tree house - which aren't exactly on topic in reference to "treehouses," though I guess they count-ish in a "house up among the trees" kind of way. Regardless, they're really cool and I decided to include them. :)

Enjoy and happy glamping! :)
