Ironman 3

Though I am generally wary of sequels, I had high hopes for Ironman 3...and thankfully I can say I was not disappointed as I walked out of the 9pm showing last night.

Tony Stark returns in the third installment of the Ironman series a bit the worse for wear after dealing with the attack on New York (in The Avengers). Robert Downey Jr.'s performance as anxiety/panic attack ridden Tony is excellent. You also see more of the snarky Tony from the first movie, due to his reverting to smart-mouthing when he's upset or trying to deal with a difficult situation. At the same time there are several deep, heartfelt moments when he shows his more grown-up side...needless to say, they all involved Pepper Potts. Gweneth Paltrow's Pepper was excellent as ever...I shall always be a big fan.

Any real explanation of the plot could give away some of the twists they threw in (and that I didn't see coming!), which I think are better left to be enjoyed as a surprise.

As far as inappropriate content, there is some language (nothing too offensive, other than a term Tony chooses to use at one point) and there are a couple scenes with scantily clad women, though they are fairly fleeting. You learn about one of Tony's one night stands by implication (which timeline-wise took place pre-Ironman I) and via some later discussion, but they never show anything. Pepper and Tony are very obviously living together, but them sleeping (and only sleeping) in the same bed is the greatest extent to which it is shown.

Overall, I would definitely recommend seeing Ironman 3...and would encourage viewing it in theaters if possible. I think it is likely best enjoyed on the big screen.

  1. I'm totally going to take the sibs to see this when I get home since now I know there isn't anything too sketchy! :)

  2. One other thing I just remembered. Tony and Rhodes walk into a bedroom and pull the covers back off a bed and there are two chicks sleeping in it, clearly hungover. A man comes out of the bathroom...and while the kids would probably miss it, it's pretty obvious that he was heading back to bed. I'm assuming they wouldn't add 2 + 2 together (or in this case, 2 +1), but I thought I'd mention it...
